Elon Musk Launches Grokipedia, AI Rival to Wikipedia
Elon Musk has launched Grokipedia, an online encyclopedia integrated with the Grok AI chatbot, to combat what he sees as Wikipedia’s left-wing bias and manipulation of truth.
xAI, founded by Musk, released Grokipedia on October 27, 2025, is an open-source platform with nearly 900,000 AI-generated articles aimed at providing a transparent, truth-focused alternative to Wikipedia.
At the end of September, Musk wrote on X that the new competitor will “be a massive improvement over Wikipedia.”
“Frankly, it is a necessary step towards the xAI goal of understanding the Universe,” he said.
On Oct. 28, Musk posted on X: “The goal here is to create an open source, comprehensive collection of all knowledge.”
“Then place copies of that etched in a stable oxide in orbit, the Moon and Mars to preserve it for the future,” he added.
The co-founder of Wikipedia has said that 85% of the most influential accounts on Wikipedia are anonymous.
Larry Sanger who parted ways with Wikipedia almost two decades ago, wrote on X on Sept 30 that following on from his interview on the Tucker Carson show that anonymous for-hire editors shape the narrative on the platform.
“Did you know that 85% of the most influential accounts on Wikipedia—the “Power 62”—are anonymous? We simply don’t know who they are. It’s a fact,” he wrote.
He told the show that Wikipedia contains a “list of perennial sources which serves as an ideologically one sided blacklist of media sources” which was established in 2017. The year US President Trump was inaugurated.
He said that the “blacklist should be abolished.”
On Tuesday, Sanger said on X there were “some good points. Many bad points. Much room for improvement” though he said: “My hat is off.”
Societal data analyst and data scientist Jonatan Pallesen noted that while Wikipedia immediately lies about COVID lab leak, Grokipedia is “spot on.”
Matt Ridley, co-author of Viral: the Search for the Origin of Covid 19, also said that Grokipedia is “fair and accurate on the topic of the lab leak” while Wikipedia is “biased and misleading.”
It its entry, editors at Wikipedia claimed that “articles have been described as manipulated to promote right-wing perspectives and the views of Elon Musk, medical misinformation and for removing content disfavored by Musk.”
A spokesperson for the Wikimedia Foundation commented in the Wikipedia entry that “Wikipedia’s knowledge is – and always will be – human…This human-created knowledge is what AI companies rely on to generate content; even Grokipedia needs Wikipedia to exist.”
Try it for yourself.
