Miliband’s Big Energy Fix Is ….. Cheap Supermarket Plug-In Solar Panels

With a global energy crunch looming and oil and gas supplies under pressure, what’s the UK government’s big move? Unleashing an Armageddon-style crew of oil drillers on the North Sea?

No.

Net Zero Secretary Ed Miliband says Brits could soon be able to buy plug-in solar panels straight off the shelf, with plans to get them into major retailers “within months.”

“Conflict in the Middle East has once again shown that clean power is essential for energy security,” said Miliband on X.

“That’s why we’re speeding up action, with solar panels to be fitted as standard on new homes and plug-in solar to be made available in shops within months,” he added.

The idea, backed by junior energy minister Michael Shanks, is to cheap small-scale solar more accessible, allowing households to plug panels directly into their homes without major installation.

“Imagine if in your weekly shop, you could pick up plug-in solar panels that help save on your energy bills” said Shanks.

Indeed.

At a time when countries are scrambling to secure oil and gas, and with warnings of disruption to key routes like the Strait of Hormuz, some argue the UK should be doubling down on domestic production instead.

That means North Sea drilling, nuclear expansion, or revisiting coal, options the current government has shown little or NO appetite for.

Independent researcher & writer and net zero sceptic, Ben Pile wrote on X: “Conflict in the Middle East has produced another energy shock which shows the absolute folly of neglecting abundant domestic resources of coal, gas and oil.”

Christian Cawley said on X: “We were promised mini reactors. Not Chinese-manufactured tat barely capable of powering a fan.”

Things are gonna get wild. So next time you’re filling up the tank with crazy prices in a few weeks, just remember, the governememt thinks the backup plan is sitting next to the middle aisle bargains in LIDL.
