Old Rugby Club Joke Resurfaces to Hit Reform Scotland Leader
Reform Scotland leader Malcolm Offord is facing scrutiny over a joke he made eight years ago at a rugby club dinner.
The National, a left-wing paper often compared to a Scottish version of The Guardian, reported that Offord made what it described as a “homophobic joke about the partner of the late pop star George Michael,” arguing there was “overwhelming public interest” in publishing it.
The remark was delivered during a Burns Supper at the London Scottish Rugby Club in 2018, a setting more associated with booze than political correctness, and well before the Great Awokening cultural mood shifted.
The paper went further, removing its paywall and placing warnings (!) on the article so readers could see the joke in full
Here it is:
“Fadi Fawaz, George Michael’s partner at the time of his death, takes the late singer’s ashes to a curry house after his death. Fawaz asks the chef to make a curry with the ashes. When asked why, Fawaz replies: “I want to feel him oozing out of my arse one last time.”
Yikes! Poor taste, but Something tells me George Michael might’ve actually laughed at that.
Offord has since responded publicly, saying the speech came “long before” he was appointed to government, and after “a bit to drink.”
“I finished with a crude joke about the late George Michael,” he wrote on X. “It was intended to be funny through being edgy and shocking—but I’m no Frankie Boyle or Ricky Gervais.”
He admitted the attempt fell flat.
“Instead of being funny, I made members of the audience uncomfortable and instantly regretted it.”
SNP politicians have come out condemning the joke. They may even use their Orwellian Hate Crime and Public Order law, which criminalises stirring up hatred based on protected characteristics
Reform are currently at 16 percent in the latest polls, still climbing and firmly in the fight for second place in Scotland.
