New Robot Looks Like a Demon and Might Act Like One

Have you every wanted a Baphomet headed robot that can carry a chainsaw?

A U.S. company is developing Threehalves a centaur-style robot designed for dangerous environments such as wildfires, rubble searches, toxic areas and confined spaces.

The company Satyress says its robot has a “humanlike torso and arms allow for natural teleoperation and interfacing with designed-for-human tools and environments”

The system combines a humanoid upper body with a “quadruped mobility platform” and has horns that double as its eyes.

“To the questions in this thread about the necessity of the horns – we place cameras there so we can see the positions of all limbs and tools, gives a layer of redundancy in case theres issues with encoders on the actuators,” Satyress said in a post on X.

The company says its for “craftsman” but also that it’s “more dangerous than it looks.”

The site contains info on what appears to be a way to shut it down if it goes rogue.

“As is any robot with humanlike strength, size, and maneuverability. We are taking a physical approach to safety mechanisms with no ambiguity. Fail-on air brakes and pin locks will render the robot immobile if system air pressure is lost. Shared reservoirs in the chest plate and body can be pierced by projectile or sharp instrument to instantly stop the robot in place,” said Satyress.

What the hell are we doing, guys?
