Ex-Navy SEAL Jocko Willink Launches 30-Day Challenge to Toughen Up Kids
Former Navy SEAL commander Jocko Willink has launched a challenge to get children and parents to improve their physical fitness, discipline and confidence through daily activities.
The Warrior Kid Challenge, which kicked off on October 26, is aimed primarily at children aged five to 12, although older kids can join in, and is tied to the film’s release which hits the Apple TV this November, starring with Guardians Of The Galaxy star Chris Pratt.
The rules of the challenge children aimed at aged five to 12, although older kids can join in, are straightforward.
Every day, children are encouraged to wake up early and make their beds, get some exercise, read for at least 20 minutes, eat properly, drink water and go to bed on time.
On top of that, they must do something helpful for someone else and tackle one difficult task of their own choosing.
Willink served in the US Navy’s SEAL teams before establishing a career as an author, leadership adviser and podcast host.
“Most kids don’t need a shortcut. They need a path — and someone who believes they can walk it,” he said.
Jocko’s philosophy is to respond to every tough battle with a one-word response: “Good.”
“I said, ‘Well, yeah, when things are going bad, there’s going to be some good that’s going to come from it.’
“Didn’t get funded? Good. Didn’t get the job you wanted? Good. Got injured? Sprained my ankle? Got tapped out? Good.
“Unexpected problems? Good. We have the opportunity to figure out a solution.
“When things are going bad, don’t get all bummed out. Don’t get startled. Don’t get frustrated.
“If you can say the word ‘good’, it means you’re still alive. It means you’re still breathing. And if you’re still breathing, that means you’ve still got some fight left in you.
“So get up, dust off, reload, recalibrate, re-engage and go out on the attack.”
