Argentina has threatened Britain over its oil operations around the British Falkland Islands, with President Javier Milei vowing to construct a military base to keep an eye on the British territory.

It’s kicking off. 

In a national address, Milei, a self-proclaimed anarcho-capitalist, said the “winds of change” favoured Argentina’s claim to the British islands, which has been owned and lived on by England and English people since 1833.

Milei said the Sea Lion oilfield, where a British and an Israeli firm are due to begin exploration work with first oil expected in 2028 was a “clear and present danger.”

“If we do not act, in a few months they will have the material capacity to appropriate the oil reserves that lie beneath our sea,” said Milei.

“The Malvinas are Argentine, by history and by right. There is no discussion about it,” he said.

Well, they are not. The Falklands are British.

Argentina’s Intelligence Secretariat even posted a satellite image of the Falkland Islands labeled “Estamos mirando” (“We are watching”). Milei said that he wants to also establish a military base in Tierra del Fuego focused on the Falklands.

Apparently a country called Chile has also linked in with Argentina.

Unlike the UK, Milei has built a close relation with Trump. 

“Your country’s not doing well” Trump told GB News. 

“Don’t forget, you get a big percentage of your oil from the Strait of Hormuz. And you weren’t there to help me. Your country was not there to help me,” he said. 

Hours before Milei’s speech, Sarah Rogers, a senior official in the US state department, posted a photo of herself with Milei alongside the caption: “Exciting things are happening in the Western Hemisphere.”

Margaret Thatcher led Britain through the 74-day Falklands War in 1982, ordering a naval task force to retake the islands after Argentine forces invaded.
