Survival AI That Still Works When The Internet Goes Down
A free AI assistant that works without an internet connection could become the latest addition to the survivalist’s emergency kit.
Survival LLM runs entirely on a user’s computer, providing advice on purifying water, treating burns, storing food during blackouts and repairing equipment without relying on Wi-Fi or mobile networks.
Unlike conventional AI chatbots, the software stores its language model and reference library locally, meaning users’ questions remain on their computers.
The library says it contains approximately 1.5 million articles, including 930,000 Wikipedia entries, medical references, emergency guidance from FEMA and the CDC, military survival manuals and repair guides.
Users can add their own documents, including equipment manuals and family emergency plans.
The technology comes as the British government encourages households to prepare for prolonged disruption.
As StockedUpMag recently reported, the government’s Be Ready campaign urges families to stockpile enough food and water for 72 hours in case of emergencies, power cuts and communications failures.
Ministers are seemingly around the clock telling households to keep supplies of non-perishable food and bottled water sufficient to cope with three days of disruption. Which is kind of what people do anyway when they go to the shop.
